Quina Creu – Falling in Love with Food All Over Again!

One of the beautiful things about traveling is the food. As a foodie, nothing excites you  more about trips than figuring out where the eating and dinning will happen. This was case when we were at Palma de Mallorca and heard about Quina Creu.

Right away Pearls & Sequence fell in love with the decor.

We loved the bar that turns into a library that turns into your living room with the bookcase and mismatched chairs.  There was a homely feel to it.

Looking at the menu we were thoroughly stumped. How do we order?  Everything we read; our mouths were watering.

We decided to make it a night of starters, pintxos and tapas sipped with a red wine; Cair 2012.

Spain means seafood, especially Mallorca, so our starters were Braised Octopus on Parmentier Potatoes and Paprika  followed by Tartar of Avocado and Scallops with tender Garlic Sprouts.

Till today the octopus was the best we ever had. The flavors exploded and the paprika, with wine added spice to our pallets.  Call it ignorance but we wouldn’t have thought of a scallops tartar balanced with the smooth and creamy flavor of avocado and after the octopus it felt light and pleasant.

We moved on to Pintxos – bit sized culinary creations.  We decided to try Cod Fish Fillet topped with Alloi & Quince Gratin with Tall Filo Prawns Wrapped with Sweet Chili Sauce and Crunchy Pork Crackling taster.

Snapchat-2294808428466377482All three exceeded expectations but if we had to pick, the Cod topped it. There is an art to  melting cheese on fish and Quina Creu has perfected it.

It may not look like it, but these dishes are filling. We proceeded to continue with another around of pintxos,  and relished  the Prawns in Crispy Potato Threads and  Mallorcan Sobrassada with Quail Egg. Sobrassada is a traditional Balearic sausage and we topped it off with a Tempura Prawns tapas.

Can you blame us for not wanting to stop eating?  Our senses had flavors exploding, every morsel tasted better than the other and we wanted to order more but it seemed sinful to waste delicious bites of heaven.

All in all, Quina Creu is a must stop for any foodie, or anyone traveling to Mallorca.

Filthy Haanz- “Filthy” just took on a whole new meaning!

Filthy Haanz, a Montreal based fashion clothing company that uses the human body as their inspiration had its coming out party in Toronto on January 14th 2015. The introduction was made by F4F PR at The Rum Exchange, an intimate, luxurious bar specializing in rums.

Bollywood Graffiti, Spring/Summer 2015 collection was an apt fit at the venue- the bar definitely has its own flavor and a rustic yet high end attractiveness, which combined with colors, delicate fabrics; predominantly silk and beautiful models redefined “niche”. True to its word the 6pm-7am pieces were glamorous, and seemed worldwide inspired.  From embroidery, to cropped tight white pants, cocktail gowns with thigh high slits and pleated skirts, the pinks, blues with hues of yellow and green symbolized the essence of Filthy Haanz.

The collection was strong, bold yet feminine where it had to be, making spectators longing for spring. Iggy Azalea’s Fancy took over the runway and perfectly timed to give the line an assertive, sexy, raw appeal.

Filthy Haanz presentation was distinguished and memorable as all the factors came together to create the perfect debut. I am looking forward  to see how the label will evolve, but if it is anything like tonight, then we have a lot to anticipate.

Collaboration Innovation- from social media to social product

creating pixlr

MacroWikinomics Rebooting Business and the World is a follow up on  the book Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything by Don Tapscott and Anthony D.Williams. The book explores the concepts of mass collaboration leading to mass production but on the digital platform. In 2006 the boundaries on cyber space and the importance of social media was still establishing itself. In 2010 it was vitally clear that we were in the midst of a digital revolution. Macrowikinomics explains how the 5 principles of 1) Collaboration 2) Openness 3) Sharing 4) Integrity and 5) Interdependence can all work towards changing how all industries function. It is not just about social media being a space for social marketing through technology. It is how the internet through thinking outside the box, sharing resources, understanding that by allowing to be open to other people’s ideas and exchanging skills many sectors of the world we live in can change for the better.

Our World needs to be fixed. History has to repeat itself and usually a revolution happens when knowledge and circumstances allow people to wakeup and take action. Feudalism got revolutionized due to the printing press and the coming together of people and sharing their resources. Accepting interdependence and good faith allowed changes to happen. The internet is our new printing press. We are in the era of network intelligence where technology as conditioned us to be faster, smarter and more skilled than we had even imagined.

Pixlr

An example of how powerful the theory of MacroWiknomics is Ushahidi: A crowd sourcing tool used in wars, elections & natural disasters- created by the use of internet, and inadvertently has helped millions of people worldwide. What started off as a simple crisis -mapping site evolved into an online social media platform to help and empower people in protecting health and much more.
PS: it was put together in a few days without the use of government funds! http://www.ushahidi.com/

The evolution of the traditional printing from newspapers to online papers as well as online marketing is inadvertently applying the 5 principles. It is not to say that this will created a movement right away but it is food for thought in taking steps to be the change that we want. Another example is the Linux open software network- it has taken years to get where it is today but there was the principle of integrity and the willingness to want to create a world which is not broken. The traditional model of command and control is failing Largely due to the global awareness that’s at our finger tips today. The authors take these principles and attempt to breathe fresh air into problems such as health care, climate change and government.

The role of community and coming together will be the building foundation while using the 5 applications to change how things are today. Occupy Wall Street movement was a hint of how people are feeling, and coursea https://www.coursera.org/ is another example of open network sharing platform.

There is definitely a movement taking place- and as much as it may feel its a giant boulder to move, its really a matter of starting with various size rocks and moving it around. It’s going to be upon each one of us to join in, but inevitably we cant escape from.

Mid Week Motivation…

A bit of mid week motivation….

There will come a time when you are unsure how to proceed next. Faced with confusion, decisions and unexpected situations its very easy to get overwhelmed and loose focus.

In the end, its not how you achieved your goal, but the fact that you did. Don’t loose your vision, because it does work out in the end.

“I failed my way to Success”

failure1Everyone says failure is part of success. Understanding failure allows you to know what you are good at, and makes you better than you used to be.

Easier said than done.

No one likes to fail. No matter how well you are skilled at your craft, rejection kills. It makes us doubt ourselves and what we are trying to accomplish. This is especially tough for startups or entrepreneurs, with emphasize on the creative kind as ideas flow and trying to contain them and make it happen can lead to a lot of projects not getting completed.

Taking failure as constructive criticism and growing from it can only happen if you allow your mind to condition itself to expect it, set mini goals to learn and evolve from it.

Change your habits, create a more inviting workspace, try different ways to achieve what you know is doable and make it happen.

NEVER LET ANYONE and I mean ANYONE even your own family tell you its not worth it.

…because it is.

Have a productive week,
xoxo R!
