Quina Creu – Falling in Love with Food All Over Again!

One of the beautiful things about traveling is the food. As a foodie, nothing excites you  more about trips than figuring out where the eating and dinning will happen. This was case when we were at Palma de Mallorca and heard about Quina Creu.

Right away Pearls & Sequence fell in love with the decor.

We loved the bar that turns into a library that turns into your living room with the bookcase and mismatched chairs.  There was a homely feel to it.

Looking at the menu we were thoroughly stumped. How do we order?  Everything we read; our mouths were watering.

We decided to make it a night of starters, pintxos and tapas sipped with a red wine; Cair 2012.

Spain means seafood, especially Mallorca, so our starters were Braised Octopus on Parmentier Potatoes and Paprika  followed by Tartar of Avocado and Scallops with tender Garlic Sprouts.

Till today the octopus was the best we ever had. The flavors exploded and the paprika, with wine added spice to our pallets.  Call it ignorance but we wouldn’t have thought of a scallops tartar balanced with the smooth and creamy flavor of avocado and after the octopus it felt light and pleasant.

We moved on to Pintxos – bit sized culinary creations.  We decided to try Cod Fish Fillet topped with Alloi & Quince Gratin with Tall Filo Prawns Wrapped with Sweet Chili Sauce and Crunchy Pork Crackling taster.

Snapchat-2294808428466377482All three exceeded expectations but if we had to pick, the Cod topped it. There is an art to  melting cheese on fish and Quina Creu has perfected it.

It may not look like it, but these dishes are filling. We proceeded to continue with another around of pintxos,  and relished  the Prawns in Crispy Potato Threads and  Mallorcan Sobrassada with Quail Egg. Sobrassada is a traditional Balearic sausage and we topped it off with a Tempura Prawns tapas.

Can you blame us for not wanting to stop eating?  Our senses had flavors exploding, every morsel tasted better than the other and we wanted to order more but it seemed sinful to waste delicious bites of heaven.

All in all, Quina Creu is a must stop for any foodie, or anyone traveling to Mallorca.

With Love,

You are the Risk.

It has been one hectic weekend and already its Monday. However as Entrepreneurs and business oriented people any day of the week feels like we are living out our dreams.

I will keep it short and sweet today as the month of January always is that dirty mixture of trying to start fresh yet waiting for clients to get organized while the ideas in your head are spinning …and that just throws me off balance at times. But then again as a free lancer with the slight, very slight possibility of having ADHD, it is to be expected.

I finally caught The Wolf Of Wall Street -loved it…and also watched it from a startup POV and that  brings me to my Monday thought. If you are getting into business only for the money…don’t…you are wasting your time. The reason to get into business is to turn your passion into a reality…live it, breathe it. The thrill of the hunt for success, the feeling of achievement, overcoming fears and failures and being a walking personal brand is the reason to get into it. The money, power, status is just a bonus; the real income is the risk you take everyday …which is you.

Ask yourself why are you doing this and how much are you pushing yourself versus how much you can-it is a great way to get clarity for your next step as  well as in personal branding.

Jay-Z couldn’t have said it better:

Have a risky week 😉

Its not you…

Besides working in Social Media, I do selective styling. I will narrate an experience that took place recently. I was referred by someone to help style an actor for a portfolio. Wanting to diversify her looks to increase her chances of being  able to step out of the comfort zone,  we worked towards the shoot.  Now most of you know professional photographers and makeup artists charge by the hour.  Within the fee my services included all of that been taken care off.

On the day of the shoot, the actor being not used to all this kept making changes and approving her hair and makeup before being shot. As well as getting previews before switching looks. The end result was exactly what was asked for. However once pictures were released the client expressed her unhappiness at everything and ended up calling the whole thing unprofessional. Despite bending over backwards to please her, and doing the courtesy follow up email I never heard from her.

Lesson learned? No matter how hard you try to keep your reputation blemish fee there will always be that client that makes you go WTF. And there will always be the ones who are never going to be satisfied with what you do. Its just knowing that its not you its them; especially when you are starting up.

Don’t let these type of clients get to you..

…because your ride is just beginning.

The Rat Race

There comes a moment in your career or at the beginning of  one when you find yourself uncertain as to what is the next step. Is it time to move forward right away? Does the 2 year rule apply? And what makes it even more confusing is all these blogs and business quotes saying things like “you will know when the time is right”  or ” business has changed you have to go after what you want ” etc. Yes the world of entrepreneurship has slightly altered due to technology and globalization as well as competition is at an all time high. Your dreams aren’t unique anymore. What you can do, someone else can do better. Exposure to the world in many forms has put us in a rat race. Reaching a milestone just isn’t good enough anymore.

Well I suggest let us not sprint at a track just because the others are doing so. The best way to win is slow and steady. You already crawled, now are walking …power walk, then jog..and the you will end up winning in the long term.

Society and the YOLO, FOMO culture has pressurized us to achieve everything NOW. Quantity over quality isn’t necessarily the way you want to establish yourself as a brand/business.

In the end your quality will always speak volumes over quantity.

Have a great start to the week Entrepreneurs.

Bitch in the workplace…

Being a woman in business, small or big can sometimes be challenging. Not because of the workload, or not knowing what to do as that can always be picked up or learnt. The toughest challenge most women face when they are a “boss” is not being called or perceived as a bitch. For some  in the dating world being a bitch is good, it somehow works in our favor  but in the career world being a bitch can make women feel lonely.

One of the biggest fears when in a position of power and authority women have is the fear of being un-liked. Once at a higher position women cant be gal pals with the rest, and it is a bit weird to have a gossip  fest and then reprimand the colleague for a job not so well done. It gets tricky when your friend becomes an associate, where do draw the line? and unlike men, women are emotional creatures. It is very rare and hard to find women who can keep their emotions aside and treat that friend or associate in a completely professional manner.

But a tip to succeed in any form of business/ projects etc is DON’T LET THEM SEE YOU SWEAT. What ever are your personal issues, connections, thoughts should be kept at home. Always be a professional and worrying how liked you will be wont further your career growth.  Sometimes you have to loose some to win some, but that path also will open your eyes regarding which kind of people you want to be both professionally and personally associated with.

Take it from me…sometimes its okay to be a “Bitch” as long as the diva tantrums aren’t there and you know how to talk to people.

Be firm. Know what you want, and don’t be afraid to get it.

Awake Chocolate Review and CONTEST!!!!!!

Its Monday (again)..and to cheer everyone up this week Pearls & Sequence has a delicious surprise for you! Heard of Awake Chocolate? NO???? well continue reading …and check out the cool giveaway P&S has for you! 🙂

Awake chocolate is exactly what its name states. A chocolate that keeps you awake for a good length of time and you don’t feel that sugar crash when it “wears” off like red bull. Amazing concept really…I mean who doesn’t love chocolate? and given lifestyles of everyone these days its a perfect fit.

The chocolate tastes like a regular chocolate bar and without realizing you slowly start to feel more awake…(no pun intended haha). Better than Red Bull, simply because you don’t feel a sugar crash…and there isn’t a “time limit” as to how long the effects are…and unless you eat a whole box by yourself, you won’t be shaking or flying off the roof either.

Pearls & Sequence chats with Founder and Managing Partner MATT SCHNARR on how Awake came to be.

Q) How did you come up with the concept of Awake?
MS) We used to work in the Consumer Packaged Goods Industry for companies like Kraft and Pepsi. While working in that industry we saw the growth of functional foods like probiotics in yogurt, vitamins in water and especially caffeine in drinks. We set out to create the only great tasting functional chocolate bar merging the great taste of chocolate with the pick me up of a cup of coffee.

Q) How did you get it from an idea to a launch of a product?
MS) We literally started making it in a kitchen with a friend that has experience manufacturing chocolate. Once we proved that we could do it on a small scale, we sourced a manufacturing facility with 75 years experience that could produce with the scale that we were hoping to create. We also hired Tether Inc to design our branding. The founder was the former Global Head of Design for Starbucks, Lego and Nike so we knew we were in good hands. Finally we needed to generate some capital to fund this growth and create awareness. We reached out to friends and family and pitched successfully on Dragons Den ( a show on making aspiring entrepreneurs dreams into a reality. Airs on Sunday at 8pm on CBC television).

Q) What are your future plans for awake?
MS) Continue to launch chocolate products that provide people the energy that they need to get stuff done. We will focus on new flavors and formats that are convenient and always great tasting.

Awake recently launched bags of individually wrapped bites of chocolate. The bites are dosed to provide half a cup of coffee worth of caffeine in one third a chocolate bar size. This is a great alternative for people that want to monitor their chocolate/caffeine consumption and still want a “pick me up”.
